In 1997 the Jamal sculpt eveloped and rooted hair was added, instead of the molded curls. Short and curly hair but otherwise the same face. The 1991 marking is still present, Mattel just added 1997 to it. This was the regular face for all the black male dolls for a few years and it resurfaced as Happy family Grandpa appeared.

The black version of the Happy Family grandparents was made with old sculpts and AA Grandpa got the Jamal sculpt with rooted salt'n pepper hair and painted age lines across his forehead and around the eyes. He has a painted moustache .

The High School Musical dolls mostly got their own faces but a couple of versions of Chad were made with the old rooted hair Jamal head. His hair is wild, big and poufy in brown with blonder highlights. He is a cute kid!

M4059 High School Musical 2 - Summertime Chad, 2007

Another of the High School Musical boys also got this sculpt, Zeke. I am not sure as I type this, how many Zeke dolls there are made or of this Prom Date guy is the only one. He has darker complexion that Chad, so a bit easier to recognize.
