Mari is the Asian girl at the International High School in New York. She
appeared the second year. She is the electrical games expert (what else?)
and had a brand new face. This girl really looks Asian! She is well loved by
the collectors but we only saw her in two versions, the second being My Room
Mari.
In Europe we got her under the name Mariko. I find that adorable! She has
rooted jet black hair with red strands in both versions, the first one with
two fishtail ended braids.
It took many years before we saw the Mari sculpt again, in a Platinum Label
edition doll, Chiffon Ball Gown Barbie and she has been seen since then in a
few dolls, Styled By Chriselle Lim in a Petite body and a HTF Paris
Convention doll by the name Chromatic Couture designed by Carlyle Nuera.
In 2020 a new non-official "series" saw the day of light with a Lunar New
Year Barbie sporting the Mari sculpt and a year later the Guo Pei Lunar New
Year doll came by. I have both as a part of my "Dolls of the World"
collection.
