Ken has gotten more makeovers that any other doll. I think. It used to be
like that once, but with all the new face sculpts everywhere, who knows?
Anyway. Ethnic Ken... The first one was the Hawaiian Ken in the early '80s.
He was made with the Edwardian Ken head sculpt, or MOD Ken if you wish. The
one with the molded hair, not Mod Hair Ken. Some of the latest are a Basics Ken and a
Japanese Ken - the first ever and we want to see more of him! Male Asian
dolls are so very few. Hispanic Ken was made in a few versions, of one was
the second Hawaiian. OK, Hawaiian doesn't mean he's Hispanic but that was
the face used. Also, I have claimed the 1988 Olympic Ken doll to be AA but
got my bucket full of yelling from a collector in South America that claimed
him to be Hispanic and I do stand corrected as latin, as black skin tones,
vary from the lightest to the darkest and all shades inbetween.
